MWV in 10 figures

“Welcome to Medics without Vacation in 10 figures. For people who have difficulties reading tables and profit and loss accounts I will be your guide through the 10 most remarkable cases of the organisation.

Starting with one mission in 1981, we organise 140 missions today. Two million euro is the amount of the free working hours of our people in the field. Thanks to their working for free and our subsidies, we turn every euro you give into 3 euro. 400 volunteer specialists are members of the teams who go to Africa and 40 volunteers work in the MWV office. Five years ago 160 volunteer specialists left for Africa, and 285 in 2007. In Africa we work closely with about 60 hospitals. 70 percent of our income comes from donations from generous people such as yourselves. With your donation we can give 8400 patients a new lease on life by operating or treating them. We also train 900 doctors and nurses in Africa. Please fasten your seatbelts now because we are about to land. Thank you for travelling with MWV and we wish you a pleasant stay on our site.”

• sent 60,700 kilo of equipment and operated patients in 2007 and 2006
• sent 2,149 doctors and nurses
• 974 (missions) x 30 (patients per mission) = 29,220 number
• helped 60 hospitals
• worked on improving the healthcare in 8 countries
• since 2008 we have sent 2.5 teams a week
